Why drinks tip in a pool room — and what actually holds one steady off the rail

A pool room doesn't lack places to set a drink down — it has five, and each one fails for a different, specific reason. The table's own dimensions, the mechanics of a real cue stroke, and what a spill actually costs all explain why the rail keeps winning anyway, and what it takes to change that.

The geometry that puts the rail at drink height

A regulation 9-foot table plays out on a surface that's exactly 100 by 50 inches — a strict 2:1 ratio — with the bed sitting 29.25 to 31 inches off the floor by WPA spec.
